Monica Starr

Monica Starr was born and raised in a small farming and ranching community
in Kansas. The town had a population of 2000. For thirteen years of her
life, she lived on a large farm where her family owned and operated a
feedlot and farmed crops such as corn, wheat, milo, and sunflowers.
As Monica grew up, it was easy to see that she was a tomboy. She loved doing
things outdoors such as hunting, fishing, and riding horses. Monica wasn't
the type of girl to carry around dolls and play dress up.
>
Monica had a passion for horses as she grew up. Hardly a day went by that
she didn't go riding. When she was eleven, the competition bug bit her. She
began showing horses and doing barrel racing.
>
In junior high and high school, Monica competed in the sports of volleyball
and track. It was when she was a freshman in high school that she became
quite interested in lifting weights. It was around that time that the
thought of becoming a personal trainer entered her mind.
>
After graduation, Monica began to study Business at Fort Hays State
University in Kansas. After two years, she realized that this was not the
path she wanted to take in life, so she got certified to become a personal
trainer and began researching different places to move.
>
In 2001, Monica packed up and moved to Baltimore, Maryland where she began
personal training. As she was doing this, she met Sherwood Minor who gave
her a push in the fitness competition direction. Sherwood coached her and
introduced her to many people in order to get her started in competitions.
He kept her motivated and pushed her to be the best she could be.
>
It has been two years since she started competing and doing fitness
modeling. She loves the competition and the hard work it takes to get in
shape.
>
Monica is currently studying Dental Hygiene in Texas and personal training
on the side. Between homework and getting ready for competitions, Monica
stays very busy.
>
Monica Starr would like to give special thanks to her Mom for being such a
supportive, loving person. Also a special thanks to God and her whole family
for being there for her and getting her through each day!
